# Motivation

Why 3Jane built LCC: traditional finance scales deployment with committed capital, while DeFi pays for certainty with the cash drag of idle capital.

### Traditional finance runs on committed capital

* US banks hold over **$11T** in credit that is promised but undrawn.
* Private funds across the **$15T+** private-markets industry hold another **\~$4T** in committed but unfunded capital from LPs.

Capital calls are how managers scale deployment without forcing capital to sit idle before it is needed: LPs commit capital, the fund calls it when there is an eligible investment, and the obligation is enforced through legal agreements, default remedies, and reputation. The capital stays productive until it is called, and the manager gets certainty of execution without compressing returns.

### DeFi status quo: fully funded capital

Since 2020, DeFi has operated under a spot-capital model. Everything is fully funded upfront, regardless of whether that capital can be deployed productively. For a cryptonative asset issuer this creates three problems:

1. **No execution certainty.** Capital available today may not be there when a deal is ready to fund in two months.
2. **Cash drag.** If deposits arrive before eligible assets are ready, the asset earns less because capital sits idle.
3. **Expensive buffers.** Issuers compensate for idle capital with token emissions, dual-token mechanics, or levered staking yields.

3Jane runs directly into this problem: warehouse and forward-flow deals take time to execute properly, so the balance sheet needs certainty for when deals close without carrying idle capital in the meantime.

Traditional finance gets capital efficiency through unfunded commitments, but the enforcement rails are not composable, not visible by default, and closed to DeFi capital formation. DeFi gets execution certainty, but pays for it with the cash drag of idle capital.
